The Devil's In the Details

Book 2: The Devil’s in the Details continues the Holler & Hellfire Universe with a darker, sharper Appalachian Gothic romance centered on Della Combs and Samyaza. Where Book 1 opens the door through Dixie and Azazel’s compact, Book 2 turns toward the east wood, the Combs property, and the woman who has been holding her land, her son, and her silence far longer than anyone should have to.
Della Combs is a herbalist, Hollow Witch, and single mother who has spent years protecting her home by routine, instinct, and sheer will. She knows the fence lines. She knows what belongs in the trees. She knows when something is watching. What she does not know is that the shape at the edge of the wood has a name: Samyaza, chief of the Watchers, ancient, earthbound, and bound to her life in ways she was never told.
Their story begins with anger before it becomes anything close to tenderness. Samyaza has watched the Combs property for thirty years, and Della is not the kind of woman who romanticizes surveillance, secrets, or divine excuses. When the truth comes out, it cuts straight through the center of her life: her son, Brian Lee, is Nephilim, the first child of one of the original Twelve born in thousands of years, and Samyaza has known from the beginning. The Book 2 canon places Samyaza at Della’s property thirty years before Year 0, beginning when Della was eight, and ties the main Book 2 event to Della, Samyaza, Brian Lee, and Asmodeus’s defeat.
At its core, The Devil’s in the Details is about the cost of being seen, the violence of withheld truth, and the slow, difficult choice to trust after betrayal. It is a romance built not on instant forgiveness, but on accountability, protection, rage, desire, and earned presence. The companion album notes describe Book 2 as Della Combs’s arc in the east wood, centered on a woman discovering she was never truly alone and on thirty years of watch-keeping finally coming to resolution.
The novel expands the H&H mythology through the Watchers, Nephilim bloodline, Hell’s interest in Brian Lee, and the growing proof that love is not just emotional. In this universe, trust is structure, belief is frequency, and the details are where the devil either hides—or falls.
